The following is posted for members of the South Carolina Band Director Association, with permission from the Executive Board, with an invitation to complete a short research survey concerning solo and ensemble festivals.
Hello! My name is Dr. Greg Springer (Assistant Professor of Music Education, University of South Carolina), and I am inviting you to participate in a short research study that I am working on with Dr. Brian Silvey (Director of Bands, University of Missouri).
With this study, we hope to investigate how band directors evaluate other musicians’ solo and ensemble performances. You are being invited because you are an inservice band director who has likely participated in district and/or state solo and ensemble festivals. If you are interested in participating, all you will have to do is listen to 6 brief excerpts (approximately 90 seconds each) and complete a short evaluation of each performance. After listening, you will respond to one question and a 5-question demographic questionnaire. The procedures will take approximately 12 minutes to complete.
