A word from our SCMEA president to school music teachers and students across South Carolina:
Yesterday was a tough day for us as we received the news from the governor’s office that we will all remain separated for the rest of the semester. Concerts, festivals, and other end-of-year musical traditions and celebrations we have been looking forward to have all evaporated, and the sense of loss is keen.
We must grieve these losses. But we must also remind ourselves that these losses are felt so deeply precisely because the bonds we have created through music are so deep – bonds that will most certainly outlast this pandemic.
In the meantime, stay strong, rest, and remember: though the music may have fallen silent in our performance halls and auditoriums, it plays on in our hearts.
