Dear SCBDA Colleagues,
Thank you so much to those of you that came out to our Fall Meeting last weekend. Your commitment to our association is why we are so successful and are able to offer outstanding events for our band students. For those of you that were unable to attend the meeting, it is my pleasure to inform you that Chaz Paxton was elected to fill the vacant President-Elect position. Chaz assumes this role immediately, fulfilling the vacancy left by David O’Shields’s retirement, and will assume the President role for the 2019-2021 term. Chaz has spent the majority of his career in service to our association and I know he will do an exceptional job in this new role.
This election, however, now leaves a vacancy for the Marching Committee Chairman position. I have appointed longtime member of the Marching Committee, Leslie Gilreath, to serve as our new Marching Chairman. Leslie has been involved with this committee for many years and is ready to step in and assume this new responsibility. Please know Chaz will continue to assist with the marching events to ensure the success of our upcoming Marching Championships, just as Joe Gulledge and I will assist Chaz in the final preparations for the 2019 SCMEA Professional Development Conference. It is our goal that all of our events continue to run smoothly and provide the best possible experience for you and your students.
