The SCBDA has decided to cancel in-person Region, All-State Band, and All-State Jazz clinics for 2021. When considering the logistical hurdles and travel concerns from various school districts, it became clear that there was no path forward that would allow us to hold the clinics this year.
While we are disappointed that the 2021 clinics will not be held, we do have an optimistic outlook for 2021-2022, and we are currently planning our events for next year as fully in-person and face-to-face.
Additionally, we are looking into possibly holding a face-to-face Directors Meeting at a centrally located venue on Saturday, May 15 (the All-State Clinic date). This meeting would allow us to hold committee meetings, committee elections, and our regular Business Meeting and see each other face to face. This meeting would be optional, and there will be no repercussions for committee members not attending meetings if they did not feel safe attending. However, we think that getting together in-person would be a great way to end our school year. More details will be forthcoming as they become available.
We appreciate your understanding of what is undoubtedly one more disappointment for you and your students. I encourage you to find a way to recognize your Region, All-State Jazz, and All-State Band students in a unique, special way. The students selected to these ensembles are worthy of commendation for showing diligence, determination, and grit during a time when it would have been easy to “pack it in.”
As always, if we can do anything for you, please let me know.
