Fellow Directors,
As many of you already know, Governor Henry McMaster and State Superintendent Molly Spearman announced today that South Carolina schools will be closed until the end of April due to COVID-19. This was expected and we knew that it was only a matter of time until this announcement was made. With this announcement, we have no choice but to cancel the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble event scheduled for April 24 & 25 and May 1 & 2. Checks submitted with registrations were not deposited and will subsequently be destroyed, not returned.
We are currently working on a plan for several things:
- Committee Elections that were supposed to happen at the All-State Clinic Business Meeting
- Host Site selection for the 2020 SCBDA Marching Championships which was supposed to happen at the Marching Committee Meeting at the All-State Clinic
- Procedures and guidelines for 2021 SCMEA Concert submissions as a result of CPA and State Festival recordings not being available for bands
- A method for collecting All-State folders from All-State Band members
Please know that we are working diligently to devise a plan and will share the details as soon as they are worked out. I know that these are difficult times and we are all in uncharted waters. I have full faith that we will get through all of this together and that we will be stronger because of it.
As always, if we can be of service to you, please let us know.
