What is Band Link?
Band Link is a non-profit web site dedicated to promoting South Carolinas School
Band Programs.
Who runs Band Link?
Band Link was created by Jeffrey Thompson and John Thompson
with information and suggestions of band directors across the state. Day-to-day
maintenance is done by Jeffrey.
Where does Band Link get its
information?
Nearly all the information we post (scores, recaps, schedules, band page
information
) is Emailed or faxed by band directors or assistant directors.
Information pertaining to South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) events
(All State, OPAs, Concert Festival, State Marching Festival
) is sent in directly by
members of that events committee. We always consider the source of information
before putting information online.
Why does Band Link
not have information about ____?
Some times we cant get the information from an authoritative source. Sometimes we
may not know how to get that particular information. Occasionally we just let something
slip by us.
Why
doesnt my band have a link on the list of bands?
If your band is not linked to our list of bands, its probably because we
havent been asked by the band director to put a link there.
Why doesnt
Band Link still offer free pages for bands?
The Band Link staff thoroughly enjoys working with the various middle school and high
school directors to create web pages for their bands. Unfortunately we are unable to keep
up with the information on Band Link and continue to create new web pages for school
bands. We were forced to choose individual bands pages or statewide information like
the All-State/Region Band lists, marching band scores and highlights, the Band Counts
database, band directors handbook forms and so on. Band Link has become quite
popular and there are numerous projects always awaiting our attention.
How long does it
take to get a change made to a page?
It typically takes a day or two to get changes/updates online depending on the nature of
the change.
Why can only
directors link band pages?
The band director is the one responsible for the band and must approve the information on
his bands page. This policy helps to insure accuracy of the information about the
band. Assistant directors are considered directors if they are employed by the
school and/or receive a supplement for working with the band. Band Link also has a list of
band pages created by students in the student section. Student's can send in the address
for a band page they have created (no director's permission needed). So students
send in your pages!
How
do I get a link to my bands page added to the list of bands?
I will be glad to add a link to any South Carolina Elementary, Middle, or High School
official band page. Just send some Email with the band name and the URL (internet address
of the page). (Only band directors may request their band's page be added to Band Link.)
What format graphic file should
I send you?
Most internet browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer) only understand two graphics formats;
.gif and .jpg. Gifs are better for clipart or logos where their are not many different
colors in the picture. Jpgs are better for photos were there are lots of subtle colors. I
can convert your graphic to one of these formats from most commonly used formats.
(including .bmp, .tif, .pcx, .wmf .wpg, .cpt, .eps
)
What format text files
should I send you?
Currently I have available; Word 97, Access 97, Excel 97, Word Perfect
6.1. A good format to use for text is Rich Text Format (.rtf). This is a text format
understood by most PC and Mac word processors. It allows sizing of fonts, tabs, bolding,
centering, tables
What
can I do to help Band Link get my files online quicker and easier?
If you are sending in a list that has multiple columns; put a single tab between each
column. If possible send in the information in an Email message or as an attachment. I can
get it online quicker if I dont have to (re)type it. Feel free to send attachments
"zipped" if the file size(s) are reduced significantly.
